Ethical Information

As Founder of the Brand, my goal is to be as mindful as possible of our environmental impact by providing sustainable fashion. As well as manufacturing in the UK to keep our carbon footprint down, we look to source fabrics that have a better environmental rating.

We endeavour to use a mix of natural or recycled fabrics as well as using innovative eco fabrics such as Lyocell, which is made from wood pulp. All forms of printing have some environmental impact, however by using digital printing, less water and chemicals are used than in other printing methods. The dyes used for our prints are certified Azo dye-free.

Organic Cotton

Organic cotton farming works in harmony with nature. Organic cotton is grown without the use of pesticides or synthetic fertilisers, uses significantly less water and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. Growing organic cotton is better for the health of the farmers as well as the soil.

As there is no chemical retention it can also benefit people with allergies as well as those without as it feels much better on your skin. Organic cotton is also strong and resilient making your sustainable fashion garments more durable and longer lasting.

Recycled Polyester

Man made polyester can take centuries to decompose. Recycled polyester can be recycled many times over and the production process requires half the energy of virgin polyester. By using recycled polyester, it helps to turn unwanted plastic bottles into beautiful garments.

The single use plastic bottles are cleaned, stripped of their labels and caps, then melted down into pellets. The pellets are then spun into yarn and made into a beautiful soft fabric.

Lyocell

This fabric may be more commonly know as Tencel. Tencel is the brand name that produces Lyocell. The fabric is created through an environmentally friendly process. The raw material is derived from sustainably sourced wood pulp and the end fibres are both biodegradable and compostable.

There is also very little waste during its eco friendly production, the wastewater is recycled and no toxic chemicals are used. It is made from small fibres which make it very soft and breathable and the end result is a gorgeous fabric with a lovely drape.

ECOVERO™

EcoVero is a sustainable viscose fibre from the same family as Lyocell. Made from renewable wood from responsibly managed forests, its responsible production methods have less impact on natural resources. Less water, less emissions and fully biodegradable.

Silk

Silk is one of the oldest and most valuable fabrics in the world. Silk is natural, biodegradable, and long-lasting. It’s renewable with low environmental impact compared with other fibres. Where it performs better than alternatives is in its small chemical usage and the fact it doesn’t require much land. The silkworms eat the leaves from the mulberry trees which are mostly grown without the use of pesticides.

All of the byproducts of the silk are fed back into the local ecosystem. The mulberry fruits are eaten, the wood is used as timber or fuel and the foliage is used to feed cattle. Low quality silk is used as filling in products such as duvets. All of these attributes make silk a circular and zero waste fabric.

Linen

As one of the oldest textiles in the world, linen is the ultimate natural fibre and one of the most environmentally sustainable fibres to be produced. It is completely biodegradable and recyclable. Linen comes from the flax plant which is extremely versatile as every part of the plant is used to create a by-product. What isn’t used to produce linen can be used to make linseed oil, paper, cattle feed and even soap.

Linen can grow very successfully with limited use of herbicides, pesticides, or other chemicals and requires very little water. The fibres are then simply spun into linen threads. These threads can have a stiff hand feel initially but linen becomes softer and softer the more it is washed. Linen fabric is breathable, naturally absorbent, antibacterial, hypo allergenic, moth repellent and the perfect material for sustainable fashion brands.
